April 3 brought welcome relief to small businesses across the U.S. That's the date that the government made $350 billion available for forgivable small business loans. Only two weeks later, that money was gone.
During that time span of two weeks, major corporations received millions of dollars in funding. Potbelly, Shake Shack, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, and others lined their pockets with millions that should have gone to small businesses.
During that time span of two weeks, major corporations were able to line up lending and legal advice to help them stay ahead of the small businesses that were the intended recipients of the loans.
During that time span of two weeks, small businesses around the U.S. were trying to figure out how to keep the employees paid and the doors open (even if it was just being open online).
During the time span of those two weeks, many small business owners struggled to figure out what amount to take, what bank to get it from, what they would qualify for, etc.
It's been reported that the government is working on another funding package for small business owners.
It's time for small businesses to take the power back and get the funding that they deserve.
